It’s finally warming up after a rough winter, and that doesn’t only go for the weather. Our market is heating up too, so I wanted to answer a question that I often get asked during this time of year when people are wondering about getting into a career in real estate.

The first thing to know is that you need to have an Illinois Real Estate Broker’s License. To get that, you have to go through 90 hours of education and pass a test. Unfortunately, that class and test won’t teach you anything about how to complete a transaction or run your business. This is where it’s critical to consider your options when choosing a brokerage to work with.

Another thing to consider is training and support. A lot of real estate is learned through experience and every market is different. Find out what kind of training is offered with different brokerages and how that can help you. For example, our team offers a four-week intensive onboarding program to get new agents up to speed.

A third consideration is the benefits. For a lot of people, the attraction to a career in real estate is the unlimited earning capabilities. Obviously, you want to look at commission splits and any caps, but you also want to know about the other benefits that brokerages offer. Our team actually offers healthcare benefits, which is rare in this industry.

Those are just a couple of things to consider. If you have more questions or want more info about getting a license or working in the real estate field, don’t hesitate to give me a call, send me an email, or attend our Career Night! I look forward to hearing from you soon.
